Municipality Emblems

The ISIPO is responsible for the registration of Municipality emblems (is. Byggðamerki). From the date of registration the relevant municipality enjoys exclusive rights to use the emblem.

Requirements for the registration of a municipality emblem are e.g. that the design has a clear and precise symbolic meaning, containing just a few, pure colours. The symbol may not include e.g. a national flag, a trademark or any public symbols.

Upon registration a municipality emblem is published in the IP Gazette.
